Accommodation on Ali Island
At present there is village accommodation on Ali Island which can be organised through contacting Tony Raok. There is also the Aitape Catholic Diocese priest house that offers single room accommodation. This needs to be organised through contacting the diocese office in Aitape itself. It is very basic, but clean.
Food & clean water
There is a local trade-store and basic supermarket in Aitape on the mainland. The locals can provide fresh seafood and some seasonal fruit and vegetables at a very reasonable price. You will have to organise that with the locals, but they are very accommodating. The kids will often advise and assist in cooking traditional dishes. Improved cooking and dining facilities, with provided meals will be part of the Ali Island Guest house facility once completed.
Travel – How to get there and around the Aitape region
Air Niugini fly from the capital Port Moresby to both Wewak and Vanimo. From there you can reach Aitape via either vehicle or boat. You are best to contact Tonny Roak on Ali Island, who can advise you and organise someone to pick you up in Vanimo or Wewak. Make sure you contact him before flying into the area, as you may be advised of one particular route that is best. There is also a Lutheran ship that travels between Madang and Aitape on a fortnightly basis and can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
